In the 1940’s former Ohio University professor Edgar Dale formulated what he called the Cone of Experience. The idea is that people are more likely to remember something when its presentation is as close to reality as possible.

Dale found that after 2 weeks most people tend to remember around 10 percent of what they read, 20 percent of what they hear, 30 percent of what they see… The ability of people to retain information is maximised at 50 percent or more when information is heard and seen. This is the advantage of video.
